Ben is home and doing well.  He is adding things to the gallery again.  Yeah!!!

Ben Benjamin

Our good friend, Ben Benjamin has gone into assisted living.  Ben is a great jeweler, lapidary, wood carver and general good guy.  We miss seeing his face around the shop and wish him a speedy recovery.

Spa Day @ Greenwich Mall

Several members of Locally Grown Artisan Gallery have combined their talents with the massage skills of Teri Stallo of Horizons Bodywork to offer Spa Day on April 30, 2011.  Products to be featured are handmade lip balm, moisturizers as well as various skin products, bath salts, gycerin soaps, and soy candles.  You will be able to sample the skin care products and soaps. Teri will be using Marie’s Peppermint Foot Cream for 5 or 10 minutefoot massages!  The fun starts @ 10:00 AM and ends @ 2:00 PM.

Skin Products: Marie Bullock has operated Heaven Scent, a home-based business, in Oak Ridge for the past 15 years.  The original focus was to offer an alternative line of skin care products made from all-natural ingredients, and design them for any skin type.  One of the most popular items is lip balm, using as base ingredients, natural bees wax and Shea butter.  Also popular, are daily moisturizers and Angel Drops, a night treatment specifically blended to address the needs of mature skin.  She will also have personally blended herbal teas.  Her products are available at the Lavender Festival on June 18, 2011, at Jackson Square as well as Spa Day at Greenwich Mall on
April 30, 2011.  She is also part of Locally Grown Gallery.

Gycerin Soap: Nancy Delene started her journey of soap making with an article suggesting it as an activity to do with your grandchild.   Nancy and her granddaughter, Becca, started out with the idea of making soap for Mother’s Daypresents.   She says that the hard part was finding a local supply for the glycerin soap base.  Later she found a source on the internet.  For a couple of years they tried different soap bases, fragrances, and colors and gave the soap away as gifts.  Then they decided to sell the soap and settled on two types that they liked the best, theglycerin soap with soybean oil and glycerin soap with aloe because of their moisturizing qualities that made your skin feel soft.  They extract the aloe (messy job) from the leaves of the aloe plants that they grow and add it to the soap.  They sell a fluted edge sink-size soap and an oval shaped bath/shower-sized soap.  Their Rainbow Pretty Soaps are located at New Reflection Beauty Salon, Connie’s Naturally Gourmet, and   Locally Grown Gallery.

Soy candles:  Denise May has been hand-pouring soy candles for the last 2 years. Soy candles are less polluting to the environment than petroleum based candles. Soy is also food-safe and their containers may be re-used after the candle is gone. Denise will have candles with a variety of luscious scents and in various sizes.   Denise is the former owner of Owl Tree Gallery in Lenior City, and designs jewelry, needle felted and knitted items as well as making soy candles.  She is a member of Foothills Craft Guild, Locally Grown Gallery and Appalachian Arts Craft Center.

Massage Therapy:  Teri Stallo graduated from Bancroft School of Massage Therapy in October 2006.  In February of 2011, she completed her fifth year as a licensed massage therapist.  She specializes in Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage.  She also does a wonderful treatment for tired, achy feet that incorporates a massage, mask and scrub for the feet.  Teri believes that massage therapy should be affordable to everyone without regard for you income bracket.  For that reason she has a monthly one hour massage special of $35.00.  Teri is the owner of Horizons Bodywork located at Greenwich Mall behind the Soup Kitchen.  She can be reached @ 865-201-8861.
